1. Taxes:
There is a 13% sales tax at hotels, restaurants and most service industries, and an additional 3.4% tourist tax at hotels. Restaurants automatically add a 10% gratuity to the check.
 
2. Water:
Water is safe to drink in all areas of the country.
3. Tipping:
A 10% Tip to tour guides is appropriate.
A 10% gratuity is added to checks in restaurants.
 
4. Time Zone:
Central Standard time. There is no daylight savings time in Central America.
